books, CDs, DVDs, just reminiscing

Just now we’ve started watching Harold and Maude (1971) on TV. A black comedy, if you will. Brilliantly absurd. And anyone these days will appreciate the music as well as the costumes.
More good news today includes one baby, born to our friends in Prague (congrats, you guys), and a meeting with my long-lost cousin. So that makes this day a red-letter day in my diary (if I kept one). Hope yours rocked too. And if not, you still have a chance.

Yep, Chicago rocks! And not just the city (which I had a chance to visit — I hate to admit it — during Thanksgiving 11 years ago).
I remember I once saw the movie on TV while half asleep. Didn’t make an impression on me. But after I rented it from InfoUSA to watch fully awake, oh man! Love at second sight. The dancing and singing are — well, I couldn’t have done it better myself.
And the point of the story as is true now as it ever was.

Well, I’m not much of a science fiction fan, but I can appreciate good literature, something creative and uplifting and sometimes even a little confusing. So if you’re anything like me, you certainly might want to give this a try. And if you’re like many others, you probably already have given it a try. Good for you, then.
Order a book or read more about Douglas Adams on Wikipedia.
HINT: If you don’t feel like ordering a book, libraries or good friends who happen to be sci-fi literature freaks might be a good option.

Looking for something light-hearted to read? I have the answer here and now.
Dr. Seuss’s books are, together with Winnie-the-Pooh and Alice in Wonderland, the ultimate kiddie classics that adults can enjoy even more than the ones they pretend to buy them for. The sheer joy of the hilariously nonsensical poetry makes you want to giggle away the rest of the afternoon. And why not? After all, The Cat in the Hat is now 50 and in a better shape than ever before.
A fan? Go to Seussville. Who’s Dr. Seuss?? Go to Wikipedia.

One nice way to spend an evening with your loved one(s) is to watch a DVD. Not the supermodern, fast-and-furious, hi-tech and f-worded ones. Just a classic. Like The Wizard of Oz (1939).
I love the naive charm of this movie. I love how you can see the strings pulling up people or the lion’s tail; how you can tell the road has to wind behind a rock or a tree since the people can’t walk over the backdrop; how you can tell the wicked witch is gonna get it…
So, if you’re not afraid of dead people on your TV/computer screen, I’d strongly recommend this one. If you live in Kosice, you can get it at InfoUSA (but it’s a US DVD, so you might have trouble playing it); if you live elsewhere, you’ll probably know where to get it. So hurry before the rest of the people who’ve read this beat you.
