A Rough Landing

My big daughter Les had a rather rough landing the other day. I felt so bad about it, but at the same time I couldn’t help laughing (inside). She tripped and fell, literally, on her mouth. I don’t even know how it’s possible to do that. I always thought your arms would thrust forward instantly after your body realized you’re falling. But that never happened in her case.

Later, I was told it was the same with my sister when she was little. And apparently my wife had the same experience as a child. So I blame some bad gen(i)es for the unlucky fall.

On a totally separate issue, my wife and I went to see a show called Spirit of Broadway this past Saturday. The singing was good; the dancing not so much. At the beginning, they seemed to be kind of, well, not quite focused on what they were doing. But the second half of the show made up for that initial wavering, I guess.

Although I was really excited about the show, the performance I won’t forget for the rest of my life is a totally different one. It is the little dance that my now-big-lipped Les (left) performed last Thursday. It was her first time on the big stage and for me and my wife it was a true proud-parent moment. A moment worth sharing.

Summer, At Last

Well, at last summer seems to have arrived. And in case you didn’t know, summer is a great time for picture taking. So, while holding on to my mom’s camera for a couple of days, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. Here is a mixture of the best shots: some landscape, birds and naturally, my family.

The following slideshow will take you from slumber shots into the streets of Kosice, an abandoned Jewish cemetary, and finally the playground where we’ll be spending many happy hours this summer. And remember, more of my pictures are available at PicasaWeb.

Snow Treats

Snow is about the best thing that can happen to kids. You might still be able to recall those happy moments from your childhood. I am certainly reliving them every time we take our kids out to play in the snow. And here’s why:

Showing Off

Yeah, Christmas is a time when the family together. And the kids start showing off. Our ones certainly do.

Kids and Laughs

I’m a stay-at-home dad in a way. I turn into a working person in the afternoons and at night time, but my mornings are all about being with my daughter(s). Especially now, that Les has been home sick for over two weeks in a row. And it’s a time of great discoveries for me.

One of the things I’ve discovered is that my kids can actually play together nicely. That’s quite new. They’ve always been nice kids, of course, but even nice kids can turn quite mean when it comes to sharing toys. Now they seem to be getting along just fine. I actually have time to do the dishes or clean up a bit while they’re playing. Could these be my kids?

And they simply crack me up. Just today Nina, the younger one, went to bed, ready for her afternoon nap and announced (as I came up to her), “Already sleeping.” At other times she will start looking around, asking in a raised voice, “Mravec, kde si? (Ant, where are you?)” I don’t know where she gets that. But I’m happy she does.

Les too can be quite funny. She’s the best drama queen in the world. When you tell her, “No, you can’t do this,” she breaks down, sobbing, making the most wonderfully dancey moves I’ve ever seen in modern ballet.

All in all, I really enjoy staying home with them. Even if it means working evenings at nights.
